Lauren Spierer: The Search That Continued Beyond Bloomington’s College Years

FlashUnfolded Editorial · source-based case file · 2-minute read · 3 sources

Fifteen years after her disappearance, police reported that tips and interviews were still arriving.

Lauren Spierer was twenty when she disappeared in Bloomington, Indiana in the early hours of June 3, 2011. Indiana Public Media places her last known location near North College Avenue and West 11 th Street at around 4 a.m. She had gone out for the night and did not return home. [S1]

A familiar intersection, an unfinished search

The Indiana University-hosted Find Lauren website also identifies the morning of June 3 and the intersection of 11 th Street and College Avenue. It carries a message from her mother, Charlene Spierer, describing a family still searching long after the first autumn without Lauren. The site's appeal asks people with information to come forward. [S2]

A location at the edge of the known timeline is not a reconstruction of what happened next. There is no resolution in that appeal establishing where Lauren went after the reported sighting.

A separate administrative record

Indiana State Excise Police announced in September 2011 that Kilroy's Sports Bar had been cited for allowing a minor to loiter and furnishing alcohol to a minor in connection with the investigation. The agency said the business and employees had cooperated and supplied video. Its release concerned an administrative violation report sent to the Alcohol and Tobacco Commission. [S3]

That action did not determine what happened to Lauren. A record concerning alcohol service should not be transformed into a conviction for her disappearance, or into an accusation against someone simply because they appeared in an account of the evening.

What police reported in 2026

For the fifteenth anniversary, Indiana Public Media reported a Bloomington Police statement describing the inquiry as very active. Police said they had investigated twenty-three new tips over the previous year, leading to multiple interviews. The same report said the case remained unsolved. [S1]

The report also recorded a renewed family appeal and directed people with information toward investigators or Find Lauren. The university-hosted site provides Bloomington Police's number, 812-339-4477. [S1] [S2]

The anniversary therefore marked continuing investigative work, not an announced answer. Students have entered and left the city over those fifteen years; Lauren's family has remained with the same unanswered question.
