A Customer Complained About The Bakery's 'Ugly' Cookies. The Owner's Reply Broke The Internet
The review was harsh and the owner could have deleted it. Instead she wrote back, and thousands shared what she said.
A one-star review called the little corner bakery's cookies 'lopsided, mismatched, and honestly kind of sad-looking.' The owner could have ignored it or fired back. She did neither.
She replied publicly, explaining that the 'ugly' cookies were decorated every afternoon by a group of adults from a local day program for folks with disabilities, who came in to learn a skill and earn a little pride.
'Every cookie in that case has a name attached to it,' she wrote. 'They're not lopsided. They're handmade by someone who was beaming when they finished.'
The post spread far beyond the neighborhood, and by the weekend there was a line out the door. The bakery sold out of 'ugly' cookies three days running, and now keeps a photo wall of every decorator behind the register.
