Celeste Erlach’s public letter to her husband began with a request for more help. In the essay, published by ABC News in 2018, she described caring for a baby and toddler on too little sleep and needing her husband to take a larger share of the work.
Her requests were specific. In the morning, she wanted him to get their toddler ready while she cared for the baby and prepared lunches. At night, she needed time to rest with the baby in his care. On weekends, she wanted breaks and help that did not always require an instruction.
Erlach also wanted her efforts noticed, from laundry and meals to feeding the baby. She described her husband as a good father; the letter asked him to do more, not to accept exhaustion as an unavoidable part of being a mother.
