After a serious fall, Ali Çiftçi faced months of intensive care and a long series of operations. In a 2022 TRT Haber report, his treating team described using custom titanium pieces to reconstruct damaged parts of his skull.
Çiftçi told reporters that he fell from a third-floor window while confronting a burglar at his home in Istanbul. He later received reconstruction at Gülhane Training and Research Hospital; his description of the fall remains his own account.
In that account, neurosurgeon Özkan Tehli described substantial loss of skull bone and problems affecting speech, memory, balance and walking. The often-repeated 83 percent figure referred to the reported volume of missing skull structure; it did not mean that 83 percent of his brain was missing.
The titanium reconstruction was followed by improvements reported by his treating team. His experience is a particular patient's recovery story, not a promise of the same result for everyone with a head injury.
