Every Morning A Mystery Bag Appeared On The Bus Stop Bench. Then Someone Waited To See Who
The bag was always there by sunrise, always warm, always for the same man. Nobody knew who left it.
The man who slept near the bus stop had noticed it for a month: a small paper bag left on the bench each dawn, still warm, holding a breakfast sandwich, a bottle of water, and sometimes a pair of clean socks.
He never saw who left it. He'd wake to find it already there, the steam still fogging the inside of the bag. He started saving the little notes tucked inside, each one just saying 'good morning.'
One night he decided to stay awake. Just before sunrise, a woman in scrubs, clearly coming off a night shift, walked up, set the bag down, and turned to leave without a word.
He called out a thank you, and she froze, embarrassed to be caught. She told him she passed the bench every morning on her way home and couldn't stand the thought of walking by an empty-handed hello. They have breakfast together now, on that same bench, whenever their schedules line up.
