Ariana Smith’s first haircut began with a video, not a salon encounter. In 2014, the three-year-old was sitting with her father, Josh Smith, when she saw a child who had lost her hair during treatment.
Smith told ABC News that he and his wife Crystal explained what Ariana was seeing. She offered some of her own hair, and her parents found a way to turn the offer into a donation through Locks of Love.
A week later, a hairdresser cut ten inches from Ariana’s hair. Before-and-after photographs show her holding a sign about her first haircut and then a newly shortened style. Her father shared the pictures online. The family had taken a child’s immediate wish to help and followed through with a real donation.
