Jéssica Viana was walking through her graduation ceremony when she saw her son Matias in the audience. She changed direction, went over to him and dedicated her diploma to the child who had inspired her new profession.
According to the family's account, Jéssica had worked in occupational safety before Matias was born. Caring for him after his diagnosis of spinal muscular atrophy led her to study physiotherapy so she could better understand the care that had become part of their daily lives.
Four years of study brought her to that ceremony in Gurupi, Brazil. The achievement was personal, but her plans extended beyond her own family: she wanted to use what she had learned to help other children in the region. Handing the diploma to Matias made the connection visible.
