Long drives meant staring out the window and inventing entire worlds. That imaginary character running alongside the car, leaping over every mailbox and fence, kept us busy for hours.

The invisible line down the middle of the backseat was law. Cross it, and your sibling would announce it to the whole car like a courtroom witness.

You counted cows, hunted for out-of-state license plates, and asked 'are we there yet' with a boldness that only a bored kid could summon.

There were no screens to zone out into. Just each other, a bag of gas-station snacks, and the slow understanding that boredom could actually be its own adventure.
