Scott Neeson had built a successful career in Hollywood when a visit to Cambodia changed his direction. At the Steung Meanchey garbage dump, he saw children searching through waste. Returning to his comfortable life did not put that visit behind him.
Neeson left the film industry, sold major possessions and moved to Cambodia. In 2004, he founded Cambodian Children’s Fund. Its early work grew to support forty-five children with education and everyday needs.
By CCF's twentieth-anniversary account in 2024, nearly 2,000 students were enrolled in its programs. Its family and community page describes services reaching upwards of twelve thousand people, including childcare and a medical clinic. Those are the organization's reported figures. The work that began with a small group had grown into schools and support services for families in Steung Meanchey.
