She Thought Her Porch Light Was Broken. Then She Found Out Why It Kept Coming On
For three weeks the bulb she never touched glowed every single night. The reason left her sitting on the steps in tears.
After her husband passed, the widow admitted she'd stopped turning on the porch light. It had been his job for forty years, and flipping that switch alone felt like too much some nights.
So she was baffled when the light started glowing on its own every evening at dusk, steady and warm, long after she'd gone inside. She checked the switch. She checked the timer. Nothing explained it.
One evening she stayed up to watch, and saw the teenager from two doors down quietly reach over her railing, click the switch, and keep walking his dog like it was nothing. He'd been doing it every night for three weeks.
When she finally asked him why, he shrugged and said his own grandmother always said a dark porch means nobody's expected home. 'I just wanted your house to look like somebody was still waiting for you,' he told her. She's left it on ever since.
