The Diner Regular Hadn't Shown Up In A Week. So The Staff Did Something Unheard Of
Same booth, same order, every single day for years. When he stopped coming, the whole crew noticed.
For as long as anyone could remember, the old man took the corner booth at 7 a.m. sharp, ordered the same eggs over easy, and left the same modest tip and an outsized dose of good mornings.
Then one Monday, the booth sat empty. Then Tuesday. By Thursday the staff knew something was wrong, because he'd never once missed a day, not even in a snowstorm.
Nobody had his phone number, but the cook remembered the general direction he always walked home. On their break, two servers went knocking door to door until a neighbor pointed them to his house.
They found him laid up with a nasty flu, out of groceries and too proud to ask anyone for help. So they brought him his usual, over easy, in a to-go box. They rotated deliveries until he was strong enough to walk back in on his own, and the whole diner stood up and cheered when he finally did.
