Ever noticed your phone screen drifting toward a warm, orange glow as the evening wears on? It is not your eyes, and it is not a fault. Your phone is deliberately dialling back the blue light after dark, and there is real thinking behind it.

Bright blue-tinted light is the kind that most strongly tells your brain to stay alert. Get a face full of it late at night and your body can struggle to wind down, which is exactly what you do not want just before bed.

By shifting the screen warmer in the evening, your phone nudges that alerting blue light down. The display looks a touch amber, but the idea is to make late-night scrolling a little gentler on your sleepy brain.

You can control it all in your display settings, scheduling when the warm tint kicks in or switching it off entirely. Better yet, take the hint the orange glow is dropping. Sometimes the screen is politely suggesting bedtime.
