The Real Reason Your Eye Twitches — And When You Should Actually Worry
That maddening flutter in your eyelid is trying to tell you something specific.
It starts without warning: a tiny muscle in your eyelid begins fluttering like a trapped moth. Nobody can see it but you — and you can't make it stop.
The usual suspects are refreshingly ordinary: stress, fatigue, caffeine, and eye strain. Tired, overstimulated nerves misfire, and the thin eyelid muscle is where you notice it most.
Most twitches resolve on their own within days. Sleep more, cut back the espresso, and give your screen-strained eyes regular breaks — the flutter usually packs up and leaves.
The rare exceptions worth a doctor's visit: twitching that lasts weeks, spreads to other parts of your face, or clamps your eye fully shut. Otherwise, it's just your body's check-engine light for rest.
