You're drenched while the person next to you looks fresh, and it's driving you mad.

You've barely started and you're already dripping, while the person on the next machine looks like they've wandered in for a photoshoot. It feels deeply unfair, and you've probably decided it means you're wildly unfit. Not so fast.

Sweating is basically your built-in cooling system doing its job. How much you sweat is shaped by things like your size, your genetics, the room temperature and even how well trained you are, not just how hard you're working.

Here's a twist. Fitter people often start sweating sooner, because their bodies get better at cooling down efficiently. So all that dripping might be a sign your system is switched on, not a verdict on your effort.
