Nick Roberts and his photographer friend Stephen Cwiok gave a familiar maternity-photo idea an unexpected subject: the father-to-be. Wearing an open white shirt and cradling his stomach, Roberts posed on a beach in Nahant, Massachusetts, with fast food helping complete the joke.
The pictures were a surprise for his girlfriend, Brianna Magee. They were revealed at the couple’s baby celebration in June 2017, before their son Logan arrived. Magee later told WHDH that she laughed more with each photograph she turned over. Roberts said keeping a straight face during the shoot had been difficult for the two friends.
The humor came from treating an obviously playful setup like a serious portrait session. Rather than replacing the real pregnancy photographs, the unusual album gave the growing family another memory of the months before their baby’s birth.
