The picture was simple, with a round face, small eyes, a broad smile and a distinctive hairstyle. It was not a photograph or a detailed description, but it gave the child a way to communicate.
Officers also spoke with people in the neighborhood. The account says someone recognized the mother, and the two were reunited. The search involved those conversations as well as the drawing.
