Yuki's rescue began at a Florida shelter that contacted Shy Wolf Sanctuary about a wolfdog in need of a home. The sanctuary took him in and provided specialized care that an ordinary household might struggle to offer.
In its 2019 account, the sanctuary said a DNA test found he was 87.5 percent gray wolf, with Siberian husky and German shepherd ancestry making up the rest. His appearance later attracted widespread attention, but his daily care depended on staff and volunteers who understood his behavior.
Yuki formed bonds with a small group of female volunteers and spent quiet time with another wolfdog, Bella. The sanctuary became the place where those relationships and routines could continue.
